Collaborating with the National Physical Laboratory via Innovate UK's A4I project Camnexus is developing new methodology to optimise IoT sensors deployment
Cambridge, March 2022. Since January this year Camnexus have been working with the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) via Innovate UK’s Analysis for Innovators (A4I) programme. Our project, a “Method for determining network coverage and response to interference for an IoT LoRaWAN gateway - sensors system” will allow us to provide our customers with a cost-efficient infrastructure for IoT sensors deployment, optimising the amount of information from sensors with as little infrastructure as possible.
Pilot Opportunity for Companies
This project includes a pilot demonstration in a real scenario of relevance to industrial clients. Currently, we are in the process of selecting companies that are interested in piloting our technology in their infrastructure or operation. If you want to try our solution and to be part of this pilot please just click here.
"This project will provide a cost-efficient infrastructure for IoT sensors, optimising the amount of information with the minimum infrastructure."
The Aim of the Project
To measure and analyse the interference and attenuation response of Camnexus equipment, to determine the maximum area coverage of communication, and the optimal range that allows maximising the data transfer (bandwidth specification) without putting the communication at risk.
The analysis would also allow the definition of the optimal distance, including the selection of antennas to ensure the communication quality.

To Camnexus:
This project will contribute to strengthening our market position and competitiveness by
- reducing operational costs and infrastructure implementation / deployment time: avoiding trial and error in testing optimal gateway installation sites
- enhance our position respect to the competitors by having access to an novel and high-tech approach to identify optimal gateway/antenna locations
- reducing of material and capital cost: the tool will improve the optimal number of gateways to satisfy connectivity and bandwidth demand/scalability.
Our Technology
"Camnexus has developed IoT solutions, based on wireless long range IoT network, for urban, rural and underground scenarios, which includes IoT nodes and gateways, enabling scalability of thousands of connected devices.
The Camnexus IoT solution consists of end node sensor devices, the Camnexus LoRaWAN gateway and servers, and the real-time data processing and visualisation capability in client-specific customised dashboard. The communication between the gateway and the cloud can be done through WiFi, fibre optic (ethernet) or 3G, 4G or 5G.

KUBO© - Camnexus LoRaWAN Gateway
Camnexus KUBO© gateway uses LoRa technology and complies with the LoRaWAN specifications. It enables communications with Class A, B, C devices.
KUBO© is an IP67-grade outdoor product. 5G-enabled Gateway: the communication between the gateway and the cloud can be done through Wi-Fi, fibre optic (ethernet) or 3G, 4G or 5G. |

Our Partners
Camnexus is partnering with the Electromagnetic Technologies Group, which is part of the Electromagnetic & Electrochemical Technologies department at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL).
The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is the United Kingdom’s national metrology institute. NPL conducts work in a wide number of scientific domains and develops and maintains the national primary measurement standards. This project will utilise NPL’s existing knowledge and experience in electromagnetic technologies research, including wireless communications and antenna metrology.

On-going Project
The project involves the realisation of a series of communication performance tests between Camnexus' own developed gateway (KUBO800©) and sensor end-node - Pathfinder©. The communication performance tests will be performed by NPL team in their facilities, including the anechoic chamber to recreate signal interference scenarios, varying above mentioned parameters. Camnexus provided with hardware and software to recreate the sensors-gateway and gateway-cloud networks.
